Laser

The use of laser-assisted surgical systems gives the board-certified ophthalmologists at Florida Eye Center unparalleled accuracy when treating cataracts, glaucoma, and other eye diseases and injuries. For instance, utilizing state-of-the-art laser-assisted phacoemulsification surgery, our ophthalmologists can remove a cataract through a tiny incision between 1.8mm and 2.4 mm in diameter. An artificial lens can then be implanted through the very same incision, improving sight in as little as 15 minutes.

Another effective laser surgery performed at Florida Eye Center is Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT). This surgical treatment can be used to reduce intraocular pressure in patients suffering from glaucoma. As the leading cause of blindness in individuals over the age of 40, it is important to detect and treat glaucoma in a timely manner to avoid permanent damage. Thomas J. Pusateri, M.D., specializes in this minimally invasive surgery, which can be performed in approximately 15 minutes in an outpatient setting.

At Florida Eye Center, our team utilizes LenSx® and LENSAR®, two femtosecond laser systems approved for corneal incisions, capsulotomies, and lens fragmentation, to increase surgical accuracy and reduce the likelihood of complications. Laser surgery is fast, safe, and effective, making it the ideal surgical option for many patients suffering from eye injuries and diseases.
